Psoriasis is an immune-mediated genetic disease evident in the skin and/or joints. It can occur in any part of the body limited to a few lesions or moderate to large areas of the skin. Researchers believe psoriasis occurs when faulty signals in the immune system cause skin cells to grow too rapidly, creating dry, red, scaly patches called lesions.
There are several treatments for plaque psoriasis. Treatments can be biological, oral or topical.
Private insurance and Medicare are the most common types of health coverage for patients with Psoriasis. Both can lead to access issues for many patients. As a result, low-to-moderate income beneficiaries are often unable to afford the out-of-pocket costs associated with their treatment.
